The Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Rubina Khalid, has announced a significant increase in the quarterly payments under the Benazir Kafaalat Programme. This initiative aims to offer financial relief to marginalized families grappling with the challenges of rising inflation and economic uncertainty.
The payment amount will now rise by Rs 3,000, bringing the total quarterly support to Rs 13,500, up from the previous Rs 10,500. This increase is set to take effect from January 2025, ensuring that all registered families receive enhanced assistance as part of the government’s efforts to alleviate economic hardships.
Largest Cash Transfer Program in Pakistan
Launched in 2008, the BISP Kafaalat Programme is Pakistan’s largest and most impactful cash transfer initiative. With a focus on supporting the nation’s most vulnerable households, the program addresses both immediate and long-term goals.
In the short term, it provides relief from inflation, rising food prices, and stagnant economic growth. In the long term, the initiative strives to eliminate extreme poverty, empower women, and align with Pakistan’s commitments to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Currently, the program benefits over 9.3 million families nationwide, with the government aiming to expand this coverage to 10 million families by the end of 2025.
Expanded Access with Additional Banks
To make the withdrawal process easier for beneficiaries, the government has introduced new banking partners. Previously, payments could only be withdrawn through Habib Bank Limited (HBL), often leading to long wait times and logistical challenges.
Now, families can access their quarterly payments through an expanded network of banks, including:
- Bank Al Falah
- Bank of Punjab
- Mobilink Microfinance Bank (JazzCash)
- Telenor Microfinance Bank
- HBL Microfinance Bank
This expansion is expected to significantly reduce the wait time and improve accessibility for millions of beneficiaries across the country.
Commitment to Fighting Poverty and Empowering Women
The BISP Kafaalat Programme is more than just a financial aid initiative; it is a comprehensive strategy to uplift disadvantaged communities. By offering a stable source of income, the program empowers women as the primary recipients of these payments, enabling them to make crucial decisions for their families’ well-being.
This increase in payments reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the economic challenges faced by low-income families while ensuring progress towards a more equitable and inclusive society.
With the enhanced payment amount of Rs 13,500, the government is taking a proactive step to provide meaningful support to millions of families, making a tangible difference in their lives.
The BISP Kafaalat Programme continues to serve as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s efforts to reduce poverty, promote gender equality, and ensure financial stability for its citizens.
