According to the latest notification issued by OGRA, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has been set at 3,079.79 PKR. Additionally, the price of LPG per kilogram has been set at 254.30 PKR.
This price hike comes after November’s price of a cylinder, which was 2,999.47 PKR. The increase is largely due to the rise in the value of the dollar, which has affected the cost of LPG.
Stricter Regulations on LPG
OGRA has also decided to implement stricter regulations on the LPG industry due to non-compliance with existing rules.
Previously, businesses failing to adhere to LPG regulations faced a fine of 3,000 PKR. However, the fine has now been proposed to be increased to a minimum of 100,000 PKR and a maximum of 10 million PKR. Additionally, the penalty for selling non-standard cylinders or equipment is expected to increase significantly.
Furthermore, the proposed punishment for non-compliance has been extended from six months to up to 10 years in prison, which would be non-bailable.
OGRA sources stated that these changes are being made to ensure the safety of human lives, with the aim of reducing accidents caused by substandard LPG cylinders and equipment. The new regulations are currently awaiting final approval from the government.
